Minnesota will celebrate the historic launch of Arise Community Credit Union, the state’s first Black-led community credit union, on Juneteenth, marking both a symbolic and substantive milestone in economic empowerment. An upcoming launch event will take place at the Minnesota State Capitol grounds and underscores Arise’s dedication to financial inclusion, wealth-building, and economic independence guided by the Association for Black Economic Power (ABEP).

Arise will welcome new members starting June 19, offering accessible banking solutions and financial tools aimed at fostering community prosperity. A celebratory outreach initiative will occur during the Anika Foundation’s Juneteenth event on June 21 (12–6 p.m.), where ABEP and Arise representatives will engage attendees directly and share information about membership and services.

Leadership voices emphasized the significance of Arise’s mission:

  • Dr. Juneau Robbins, ABEP board chair, highlighted the credit union as “a testament to our dedication to advancing economic equity.”

  • Francis Odhiambo, CEO of Arise, said Juneteenth “embodies principles of freedom and opportunity,” and they are proud to offer a financial institution that empowers community members.

This launch moves beyond symbolism to deliver practical financial empowerment rooted in justice, service, and community self-determination.
